The Ice Dance Academy curriculum introduces skaters to the figure skating discipline with an emphasis on rhythm, interpretation of the music, precise steps, knee & ankle flexion, and extension.
Phase 1: Ice dance features rhythmic performances to pieces of music. Skaters will learn a variety of fundamental skating skills for the first dance pattern in the U.S. Figure Skating test structure called the Dutch Waltz. The goal is to prepare it to take the test. See test info below.
Phase 2: Skaters further develop a variety of skating skills with an emphasis on the steps included in subsequent pattern dance(s). Select pattern dances will be introduced. Participants who are ready for testing may also participate in the virtual test session. See test info below.
U.S. Figure Skating Pattern Dance Tests: When skaters are ready, they can test ice dance patterns either solo or with a partner. Test readiness is determined by the coaches and are judged by U.S. Figure Skating judges via a Patriot Figure Skating Club virtual test session. Fees associated with testing are not included in Group Ice Dance Academy lessons.
